Nearly half of them live within the ancient, cathedral-dense forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south-western Uganda — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the canopy has remained unbroken for over 25,000 years. Uganda gorilla trekking permits are strictly limited to eight visitors per habituated gorilla family per day — a number set by conservation scientists and the Uganda Wildlife Authority to protect the gorillas from stress and disease.
